Library Review: Star Trek the next Generation Cold Equations Book Two Silent Weapons

Silent WeaponsStar Trek the next Generation Cold Equations Book two. Silent Weapons.

Three months have passed since the events in Book one: The Persistence of Memory. A newly resurrected Data travels to the planet Orion following a lead on an immortal who may be able to reunite him with his mother. While on  Orion, he attends a meeting with a Starfleet intelligence officer, searching for information pertinent to his search. Mere hours after their meeting, she is found dead, and Data is the apprehended as the prime suspect. The Enterprise rushes from their current assignment to Data’s defense only to uncover a deeper mystery.  The semi impenetrable bank of Orion’s sensor system registered an  attempted breach by what registers as a Soung type android. Could Data be involved?

As a long time fan of the Star Trek novels, I enjoyed reading about how the crew of the Enterprise supported Data. The deeper mysteries that they uncover while there intrigued me. The potential for uncovering something new about Data excites me. If he did attempt the breach, why did he do it? What was his reasoning? Was it in search of the Immortal Flint? And thus his  vanished mother? All of these questions open the reader up to a better understanding of such a generally beloved character like Data. This deeper understanding of him will either lead to more mysteries or it will help people feel more connected to him. Though a little underrated, this intrigue brings him farther into the spotlight, and just a little more relatable. We have all done things we weren’t proud of for important causes.
