Ranked Reading for July

Greetings once again to another edition of Ranked Reading.

This month serves up a double feature.

cheap First “Robert B Parker’s Cheap Shot A Spenser Novel” by Ace Atkins. When an NFL player’s son is kidnapped Spenser is put on the case. When extra muscle is needed to help crack the case or for some additional surveillance our favorite P.I. brings in his protege Zebulon Sixkill and, just for added insurance, Hawk. Again, Ace Atkins nails the Spenser character and puts together a very good story with a few twists and turns along the way. (If I say any more I’ll give the whole story away and I DON’T want to do that.) My Rank: Commodore

star-trek-the-original-series-savage-trade-9781476765501_hrNext up, “Star Trek: The Original Series: Savage Trade” by Tony Daniel. On the outskirts of the Alpha Quadrant of Federation space lies the region known as the Vara Nebula. Inside that nebula sits science outpost Zeta Gibraltar. . . and the outpost has gone silent. When the crew of the Enterprise arrive they find the signs of a battle but, in an odd twist of fate, there are no bodies. Following a trail leading out of the system they catch up with the culprets who happen to be involved with a slave trade within the nebula. After a brief battle the slaves are freed and Captain Kirk gets a chance to talk to their leader . . . President George Washington!?! (Here’s a hint of where this is leading: President Abraham Lincoln) A very good read with a couple of semi-unexpected twists. My Rank: Captain

That’s it for this month.

Until next time the ship’s reading lamp is definitely ON! See ya next month.
