Summer is Here!

colorado flagHey there it’s me again, Chief Science Officer Jennifer Sontag reporting from the science lab here on the USS Tiburon currently in orbit around earth. I just thought I would take a little time away from the Tribbles to make my monthly report, and I decided to talk about the beautiful state of Colorado. Most of the crew on the Tiburon are from the Colorado, so I thought I would enlighten the masses about their home state. Many of these are trivia items locals will already know, but I hope that everyone will learn something from this report.

Many people know that the state was admitted into the United States in 1876, as that was done Colorado is know as the Cetennial state. Colorado also has a:

State Flower:columbine the Columbine

State Animal:bighorn sheep Big Horn Sheep

and a State Dinosauer:  65+Stegosaurus Stegosaurus.

There have been many famous people born, or just passing through Colorado, like Tim Allen (Home Improvement),  Lon Cheney (Wolfman),  Ben Nighthorse Campbell (former Senator and native american activist) and M. Scott Carpenter (astronaut). Colorado has also hosted many famous or, should I day infamous, characters like Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Most of the gunslingers were found the wild west towns such as Denver, Colorado Springs, Golden, Leadville and Central City. Many of the small towns up and down the front range of Colorado can boast their affiliation with a couple of celebrities, both nice and deadly.

Speaking of towns, Colorado has many historical towns and landmarks you can visit. It doesn’t matter if you’re into history, architecture, animals or plant life, you can find a town that suits your interest. If you like history, then mosey on up to Central City or Leadville where you can connect with the old west through spectacular buildings and views to die for.

Leadville is a great city to learn about the Silver kingsLeadville-Harrison-Avenue-small-150x150

If you are more interested in old west buildings then Georgetown is the place to be.

If spectacular views are your thing, then you have to take the drive up Highway 34 towards Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky boasts the highest paved road in the world, Trail Ridge Road, many species of animals native to Colorado, such as the Rocky Mountain Sheep and Goats, elk and moose. Estes park is also know for it’s world class destinations such as the Stanley Hotel, made famous by the movie/book The Shining by Stephen Kigeorgetownng.

Colorado has many destinations, something for everyone and for every taste. I would throughly suggest that you come out and visit the state which most the crew calls home. YOU WON’T REGRET IT!

Signing off till next month,

Chief Science Officier Jennifer Sontag
