Introduction to Discord –
Discord gives the USS Tiburon one place that helps everyone stay in touch and talk easily.
Everything on Discord is organized into servers, then categories, and then channels. So, the USS Tiburon server is a place where everyone in your community can meet, talk and be with each other.
Within the USS Tiburon server are channels, This allows us to talk about specific stuff within a designated channel without having to worry about interrupting other conversations. We have channels for all the various Star Trek series currently streaming. So, if you don’t want spoilers, stay away! We also have a general channel for exactly that, general chat. We have a for-fun channel; this is used to share those great Star Trek and other memes you might see.
There are also voice channels. Think of these as open phone and video conversations that you can casually drop in and out of or use to host bigger things like a meeting. See someone in a voice channel, just pop in, hang out for as long as you like, and leave when you want/need. It’s like joining a friend on the couch and chatting. And voice channels aren’t just voice channels. They’re for voice, video, and screen sharing, too.
Now let’s say you don’t want your phone blowing up when the newest episode of whatever Trek is streaming or any other channel. You can easily mute them! You can mute them for a short time or forever until you unmute them. How you ask? Well, on your computer, right-click on the channel name and then you will see Mute Channel, then choose for how long. On your mobile device, tap and hold on the channel name and again choose mute channel and select for how long. Wasn’t that easy?
Now, maybe you want to get notified if someone mentions you in a channel. You can set up custom notifications settings. On your computer, right-click on the channel name and then you will see Notification Settings; choose the one that is right for you. On your mobile device, tap and hold on the channel name and again choose Notification Settings and select the one that is right for you. Again, wasn’t that easy?
