First, we had Short Treks, these mini-stories filled in gaps in various stories and laid the groundwork for others. Then we had Very Short Treks, not sure we should talk about these. Now we have Long Treks! Yes, today is the day that production has been announced as starting on this long-awaited (initially announced in 2019) and first Star Trek Long Trek: “Star Trek: Section 31.”
This is what we know so far about this Long Trek. It will star the Academy Award-winning actress, Michelle Yeoh. She will return to her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. The role she started in the first three seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. They have also announced seven actors for the cast of Section 31. These include Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Emmy winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).
Nothing has been released or leaked about the story or who these additional actors will be playing. All we do know is that principal photography has started and that it should last about 6 weeks.
Star Trek: Section 31 was written by Craig Sweeny and is directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. It is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Eugene Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Michelle Yeoh and is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
“And we’re off to the races! Thrilled to report principal photography has started on Star Trek: Section 31,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman in a statement. “We welcome our incredible cast of new characters as they join our beloved Michelle Yeoh on her next wild adventure across the ‘Trek’ universe.
